Create an ID.me account
You will create an ID.me account and approve your account request (either by phone or email). As a part of this process, you will provide your personal information, which will include your name, date of birth, social security number, address and other contact information.

Choose a Location
Based on your personal information or an entered zip code, search results will display authorized locations participating in verifying your identity in person.
Some authorized locations allow you to schedule an appointment. Others accept walk-ins during their regular business hours.

Review your information
Confirm the accuracy of your information on the screen and make sure that everything matches the identification documents you will bring to your appointment or walk-in visit.

Your status is confirmed as a walk-in or scheduled appointment
The confirmation will display on the screen and be sent to your email. The confirmation outlines the next steps in the process.
Gather two identity documents that prove name, date of birth and address.
You must present two documents:
2 Primary Documents OR 1 Primary and 1 Secondary Document

- State ID card, if the state’s identification card standards are the same as for the driver’s license
- U.S. passport or passport card
- Federal, state, or local government agency ID card with photograph
Note: Military IDs, temporary, and paper documents are not accepted.
- Foreign passport that has a passport number
- U.S. Coast Guard merchant mariner card
- USCIS permanent resident card (I-551)
- USCIS employment authorization card (I-766)
- Canadian driver’s license
- Social Security card
- State government issued certificate of birth
- Marriage certificate (government certificate issued)
- Court order for name change/gender change/adoption/divorce
- Current school ID with photograph
- Draft record
- Native American tribal document
- U.S. government issued consular report of birth abroad
- U.S. Tribal or Bureau of Indian Affairs identification card
- Vehicle Registration / Title
- Voter Registration / Voter Registration card
These secondary identification documents must list a statement or due date from within the last year. They must also display your full name, current address, and account number, except for pay stubs.
- Bank, loan, or financial institution statement issued by the bank (this must show the full account number, full name, and current address)
- Cable or internet bill
- Electric bill
- Gas bill
- Medical bill
- Phone bill
- Water bill
- Paycheck stub - the financial information can be redacted (removed, marked out, or otherwise hidden)
- State-issued driver’s license

Go to your designated location for in-person verification

Check into the Identity Network Kiosk
Use your QR code or registration code and confirm information displayed on the screen.

Capture Photos
You will capture a photo of yourself and photos of the acceptable, required documents.

Technician Assistance is Required for the Next Step
A kiosk technician will match your selfie and document photos to make sure the photos are clear and legible.

Validation
Once the technician has validated your photos and information, they will "submit" on the kiosk and the pack of information will be sent to ID.me for final review.

ID.me will send an email
You will receive an email when your identity is verified and your account is active. You may then use your ID.me account to share information with the Retirement Systems and log in to your ORBIT account.
You may also complete the verification process online through NCRS beginning February 1, 2026
